Use Marvalloy for “Super Performance”

Description:
Marvalloy is an extremely hard electrodeposited chromium that is applied by rigidly controlled process to produce a superior degree of adherence and uniformity that is not attainable by conventional chromium plating. (Top of Page)

Wear Life Increased:
Marvalloy has rewritten the specifications of leading machine tool rebuilders by establishing new standards of accuracy through greatly increasing the life and extending the serviceability of ways. Coincidental savings are being affected by easier machining and use of lighter materials. (Top of Page)

Improve Quality Reduces Maintenance:

In fact, experience with grinders, lathes, sharpeners, milling machines, drill presses and other machine tools show that bearing areas of Marvalloy wear IN – not out. Processing rolls are another example of the ability of the process to improve quality and extend operating life. Tolerances are maintained, finish is improved, down time and maintenance costs are reduced to new lows. (Top of Page)

Manufacturing Economies:

The use of Marvalloy is practical and economical for single unit or volume production requirements. It is successfully used on unusual shapes as intricate castings and extrusions. (Top of Page)

Maintain Accuracy:

Men responsible for product performance are utilizing Marvalloy to answer today’s increasingly difficult demands involving exacting design, production and service requirements. Dramatic results are being obtained through improved performance of machine tools, hydraulic powered equipment, rolls, missiles, computers, space components and many other fields where accuracy and long life are essential. Application:

Marvalloy is effective in increasing wear resistance in sliding surface contacts. Marvalloy provides excellent erosion and corrosion resistance. Marvalloy’s micro-surface composition aids in lubricant dispersion, enhancing base metal to the degree of reducing or eliminating galting, seizing and high friction over a wide range of installations and environments. (Top of Page)

Advantages:

Marvalloy will not effect a buildup of more than .0001 unless otherwise requested, eliminating the need for undersize design calculations in most applications. Marvalloy is comparable with most ferrous and nonferrous metals, allowing maximum design selection of base materials. Marvalloy is recommended as a finished process, eliminating additional grinding and secondary operations. Marvalloy quality is constant with any given base metal, insuring design reproducibility. Properties and Characteristics:

Hardness:

Marvalloy, as deposited has an equivalent hardness in excess of 70 Rockwell “C”. When measured by conventional micro-hardness methods, the host material will modify this measurement to some degree. (Top of Page)

Adhesion:

Marvalloy will not chip, flake, crack, peel or separate from the base material under standard bend tests. (Top of Page)

Coefficient of Friction:

(Note: Measurement made at 72°, using other materials for comparison.)

Heat Resistance:

Marvalloy will withstand temperatures of -400°F to 2,300°F. At elevated temperatures above 1,300°F it will react with carbon monoxide, sulfur vapor and phosphorus. At bright red heat, oxidation occurs in steam or alkali hydroxide atmospheres. Hardness and wear resistance will reduce to some degree at temperatures above 700°F. (Top of Page)

Corrosion Resistance:

Marvalloy resists attack by most organic and inorganic compounds except sulfuric and hydrochloric acids. Porosity of the base metals, compound concentration and exposure time to the compound become corrosion factors. Marvalloy only enhances the base material. (Top of Page)

Thickness:

Marvalloy thickness is in-relation to the base metal, and thickness will vary from base to another. Thickness with regard to given base metal however will remain constant and predictable, and under normal circumstances will not reflect a buildup greater than .0001 of an inch. The most prefect bond experienced in Marvalloy, as compared to conventional treatments gives the advantage of functional thickness and the resulting properties that remain with base metal. (Top of Page)

Material for Processing:

Marvalloy may be applied to all ferrous and nonferrous metals with the exception of magnesium. (Top of Page)

Processing:

Marvalloy processing is of a proprietary nature with quality control basing of prime importance. Process temperatures are maintained at 136°F. This insures no effect on heat treatment nor is severe thermal distortion introduced in the host part. Extreme care in handling is exercised during the entire process. (Top of Page)

Surface Quality:

Marvalloy conforms to the existing surface, threads, flutes, scratches, etc. with amazing reproducibility. R.M.S. finish will improve slightly down to about 8 R.M.S., below 4 R.M.S. the process may deter slightly. Processed parts will project a mat or micro-orange peel surface with very good retention qualities. (Top of Page)
